Discussing the utopian potential of Johannes Vermeer’s painting in relation to the philosophy of Ernst Bloch, primarily focused on his writing in ‘The Principle of Hope’. This essay questions how Bloch's concept of utopia can make us consider a contemporary understanding of the oeuvre of Vermeer, a how we can turn to the past to suggest possible futures. 

Written in the format of a field study, the process of painting is interrogated, questioning the magical elements to it's method.

This research file examines Jean Dubuffet’s work relating to the ‘art brut’ in how his utilisation of the movement both degenerates and sustains the dominant power of the West in art. Through employment of postcolonial studies and the integration of postcolonial theory, this file articulates how Dubuffet can be argued as exploitative of the ‘art brut’ movement and on the other hand, is prominent in the disassembling of dominant Western aesthetics. 

Comparing the work of Caravaggio to contemporary artists and examining the revolutionary impact on his reputed depiction of queer culture and plebeians that opposed the period's standard for portraiture. 

A curatorial proposal that follows a speculative dynamic in that it is written from a future-orientated perspective, describing the actions and rationale of a fictive artist collective called the ‘Gutters’ in the reformation of the gallery space. Contemporary studies and data have been applied into this narrative as a means of questioning current cultural distribution today. 

Analysing where philosophy and art intervene, using the writing of Martin Heidegger and Maurice Merleau-Ponty to discuss the nature of perception in relation to the image, using the paintings of Chaïm Soutine as a case study.
